As IFPA’s Scientific Officer, you will be responsible for all scientific/medical information on psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis in all IFPA’s communication channels (website, newsletters, social media etc) and will provide correct and up-to-date information to IFPA’s member organizations, to policy makers, other stakeholders and the general public.
IFPA is a global federation of more than 55 national and regional psoriasis patient associations. Up to 125 million people are believed to live with psoriasis all over the world, and it is a disease that can have a significant impact on both the individual and on society. IFPA is a democratic organization governed by the General Assembly of its member associations, and its operations are overseen by an appointed Board made up of seven elected representatives. IFPA's Secretariat is based in Bromma, Sweden, a part of Stockholm, and includes seven staff members.
IFPA's goals are to empower its members, improve living conditions for patients, raise awareness of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and cooperate with fellow stakeholders. IFPA holds Special Consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and actively advocates for the global psoriasis community within the WHO system and towards its member states. IFPA is also the proud organizer of the World Psoriasis & Psoriatic Arthritis Conference which is held every third year since 2006. In order to fulfill our obligation to educate the public, our members and fellow stakeholders, we are now seeking a Scientific Officer to assist us in this endeavor.
As IFPA's Scientific Officer, you will be responsible for all scientific/medical information on psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis in all IFPA's communication channels (website, newsletters, social media etc) and will provide correct and up-to-date information to IFPA's member organizations, to policy makers, other stakeholders and the general public.
You will have an important role in developing training offered to IFPA's members on psoriasis & psoriatic arthritis through member meetings, webinars and other platforms. You will be supporting the planning and organizing of the IFPA World Psoriasis & Psoriatic Arthritis Conference, to be held next in the summer of 2021 in Stockholm. You will contribute to building IFPA's knowledge resources with updated scientific information, participate in international events like scientific conferences, coordinate with external stakeholders, and participate in advisory groups on behalf of IFPA.
You will also provide the IFPA Board and colleagues at the IFPA Secretariat with current information on developments within the fields of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and be tasked with designing IFPA's strategies pertaining to health care policy, treatment guidelines and research and development issues.
The IFPA Secretariat is a relatively small staff team, which works closely together. Your work scope can also include other tasks to support other team members. This will include a strong communications component.
In order to qualify for this role, you must have well-documented experience in scientific communication and/or training, for example as a medical/scientific journalist or as a Scientific Communications Officer (or equivalent) at a medical society, patient organization, pharmaceutical company or within the higher education system. Preferably you have a background within research or medicine, and a degree within public health, pharmacology, biochemistry, or epidemiology would be highly qualifying. Knowledge specifically about psoriasis or other chronic conditions will have high merit value. As we are an international organization you must have full working, preferably expert, proficiency in English; fluency in other world languages and experience from international assignments is also a qualifying merit.
Your communication skills are excellent, and you have a proven track record as an educator. You can parse complex scientific information and adapt it to a wider, non-specialist audience. As some parts of the role require good administrative and collaborative skills, we ask that you provide us with examples of how you have performed in a more project-based setting.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A driven and enterprising problem-solver with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. As this is a small secretariat, the candidate must be a true team player and able to manage diverse tasks, even during high-stress periods. You are also capable of functioning independently as a representative of IFPA at international events. In this role, it is important to be adaptable, responsible, thorough and highly organized, as you will be interacting and collaborating with professionals from a wide variety of specialty areas and as the work will be very varied in its nature.
You are welcome to send in your letter of interest and CV, both in English, marked Scientific Officer in the subject line, by the latest June 21 (sooner applications are encouraged). Interviews will be conducted mainly in late June or early July and the position can start shortly thereafter, subject to agreement.
