INTO HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT?
WE VALUE BOTH SIDES OF YOU
Working with Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) in Sandvik requires robust systems and processes together with strong management leadership and commitment. The Global EHS team within Business Area Mining & Rock Technology (BA M&RT) is committed to making EHS a Business Advantage by ensuring that our products and services not only meet, but exceed our customers’ EHS expectations. And of course, as a minimum, we aim to minimize negative impacts on the environment and adverse effects on our employee’s health. The work to achieve these objectives requires strong knowledge of applicable environmental and health laws and regulations and setting up systems of work but, above all, must assist with the continuous improvement of our EHS culture.
We are now looking for a new member to join our team – someone who has expertise in environment and health (especially chemical related) issues and would like the opportunity to act in a truly global setting. In this position, you may be based in any of the major Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology sites but European candidates and/or experience will have an advantage. Some examples of possible locations are Svedala, Västberga (Stockholm), Tampere (Finland) or Lyon (France).
Job Summary
In your role as a Global Environmental & Health Specialist, you provide technical environmental and health support to the entire BA M&RT. You identify any potential regulatory issues and facilitate solutions to provide some business advantage. You will also assist with the continual improvement of the EHS culture through building and sustaining networks and industry-leading programs, and benchmarking results and measures. Part of your mission is to provide recommendations and communicate EHS industry trends to senior management with the aim of implementing new policies, programs and systems that support our overall business plan. You also cooperate with external organizations/associations, including authorities, and solicit input to ensure that up-to-date practices and policies are communicated and implemented throughout the organization.
Your work includes managing projects within the chemical area in order to ensure compliance and strive for best practice (e.g. REACH, CLP/GHS). You are part of the BA M&RT EHS Lead Team and Sandvik’s EHS Council Working Groups for the chemical, energy and environmental areas and take responsibility for increasing the knowledge and the awareness for issues related to hard metals such as Cobalt. The role will also support the organization with broader health related issues e.g. occupational stress, vibration, noise etc. You communicate widely and provide information – occasionally as a ‘trainer for trainers’ - and support the professional development of others in the BA.
In our global team, we aim to work closely together although we are often in a ‘virtual’ work environment. To do this, we use communication technology where it is practicable but international travel may also require as much as 20% of your time. You report directly to the VP, Global EHS at Sandvik Mining & Rock Technology.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a university degree in environmental or chemical science and with at least five years’ experience working in these fields. Your background may include working for suppliers in the chemical industry or in manufacturing or distribution, together with a high level of EHS experience. An advanced knowledge of environmental and health legislation within an industrial environment will be advantageous. Since we are a global company and this position includes a lot of internal contacts, your English needs to be fluent, both in written and verbally.
We recognize and value your passion and personality and, as your manager is located in Australia, your self-motivation and independent mindset are crucial characteristics. You have an eye for details, which enables you to process complex technical information, and with your great communication skills, you easily get the message through and inspire your audience to join the mission. In this role, you need to be confident and enjoy a position where you are in the spotlight, leading both discussions and teams in your field of expertise.
We are a company with an open-minded culture, actively working to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
